Charles F. Bodecker papers


Personal and professional papers of Charles F. Bodecker and family, including some of his father, Charles F.W. Bodecker (d.1912), also a dentist. Included are biographical and genealogical information; correspondence from family members and colleagues; records relating to his education at the Universities of Buffalo, Jena, and Berlin; diaries; a complete set of his professional publications; printed material relating to professional meetings; and a few photographs.

The chief correspondents are William Lefkowitz, who had been Bodecker's research collaborator at Columbia, and Albert Schatz, the co-discoverer of the early antibiotic, streptomycin. The 1898-1902 diaries chronicle Bodecker's student years in Buffalo and his early career as a dentist in Berlin; the 1923-1926 volume records his anguish over the breakup of his marriage and his solace in spritualist practices.
