Historical/Biographical Note:

In 1916, the Columbia University Faculty of Medicine urged the founding of a dental school “along University lines,” which resulted in the Board of Trustees approving a four-year course  with the first two courses identical to the medical course. On July 1, 1923, Columbia University School of Dentistry merged with the College of Dental and Oral Surgery of New York (founded in 1892) which was renamed the School of Dental and Oral Surgery (SDOS) to reflect the union of the two schools. SDOS was further renamed the College of Dental Medicine (CDM) in 2006.

Scope and Content:

Collected print material stemming from the College of Dental Medicine and its predecessor institutions, consisting of invitations, announcements, and programs for lectures, memorials, alumni and student events, and school anniversaries; brochures for student orientation and life; syllabi and course descriptions; fund raising brochures and program prospectuses; reports on the state of dental education and the school; departmental and school newsletters, such as the Salivary Gland Center (1993-1999); and promotional material and ephemera, such as window stickers commemorated the renamed CDM (2016).
